About the Department

Psychology is the scientific study of human behavior. The Department of Psychology at Mississippi State University houses both undergraduate and doctoral degrees in psychology. We have over 900 undergraduate majors and 45 Ph.D. students in the department. Our faculty conduct both basic science and applied research supported by grants from various federal agencies and foundations.

The Department also houses a Psychology Clinic that provides scientifically-informed psychological services for the Golden Triangle community. Be sure to check out our clinic page for more information.

Our Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology trains students in a rigorous curriculum that includes required courses in research design, behavioral statistics, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, social psychology, abnormal behavior, learning theory, and developmental psychology. Students also choose a series of electives from a wide range of exciting course offerings that are popular with students across the university. Starting in fall 2018, this degree has also been offered via on-line education for students across the globe.

The Department also offers two doctoral graduate degrees: an APA accredited Clinical Psychology Ph.D. and a Cognitive Science Ph.D. Graduates from these programs go on to careers in academia, industry, clinical settings, and government agencies.
